Welcome to our Institute of Molecular Psychiatry
The major research focus of our Institute is the role of specific molecular, genetic processes in the development of psychiatric diseases.
In particular, as many neurodegenerative diseases are associated with disturbances in energy metabolism, Prof. Rudi Balling is interested in computational models of the citric acid cycle, the major cellular energy production pathway, and its coupling with metabolic and signalling pathways.
Dr. Andras Bilkei-Gorzo 's main research interest is brain ageing and the role of the cannabinoid system in this process.
In his current projects, he plans to elucidate the mechanism of the anti-aging effect of tetrahydrocannabinol - THC - and how the cannabinoid system as a safe keeper controls brain-body interactions during ageing.
